Provides therapeutic services designed to improve, restore, or maintain an individual’s functional abilities needed for daily living, including fine motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, cognition, and overall independence. Services are tailored to the individual’s needs and delivered in accordance with an individualized treatment plan developed by a qualified occupational therapist.
Occupational therapy may focus on enhancing the skills required for activities of daily living such as self-care, dressing, eating, grooming, school or work-related tasks, and community participation. Interventions may include therapeutic exercises, skill-building activities, adaptive strategies, environmental modifications, and the use of assistive devices or equipment to support greater independence and function.
Services may be provided as either rehabilitative, focusing on restoring lost or diminished function, or habilitative, focusing on developing and strengthening skills necessary for daily life. Rehabilitative services are only provided when occupational therapy limits under the State Plan have been exhausted.
Therapy is delivered according to established clinical standards and individualized goals, and may be provided on a one-on-one basis or in small group settings with a maximum of one therapist supporting up to five participants.
